Choose a list of symptoms complained by a patient and the signs elicited during the physical examination into the application. (E.g. Dyspnea, Cough, Chest Pain and Hemoptysis). The selected symptoms are shown above. The list of diagnosis is shown on the right side. To fine tune the list, choose the total number of symptoms from the bottom of the diagnosis list. In this case "4". The list of differential diagnosis is rank ordered based on the presence of all these 4 symptoms in the patient. (Pulmonary embolism, Asthma, Heart failure etc.)
Since Pulmonary Embolism is on the top of the list. To further evaluate that possible diagnosis, just mouse over the score against Pulmonary Embolism. Additional symptoms typical of Pulmonary Embolism pops up. (E.g. Hypoxemia, Tachycardia, Pleuritic Chest Pain etc.) This helps the physician to further check with the patient for any additional symptoms. Adding those additional symptoms further fine tune the differential diagnosis list.
Additional Diagnosis for a particular symptom can be further explored by further mousing over the color block against a particular symptom. (E.g. Dyspnea, list all the diagnosis rank ordered, where it is a very common symptom (Heart Failure, Pulmonary Embolism, COPD etc.)
Clicking on any score against a diagnosis or symptom will open a Wikipedia page showing all the details about that concept, including, additional tests, imaging studies to confirm the diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis etc.
