The application allows clinicians to select patient-reported symptoms and physical examination findings (e.g., dyspnea, cough, chest pain, hemoptysis). Once selected, the chosen symptoms are displayed, and the system generates a corresponding list of potential diagnoses on the right-hand side.
To refine the results, users can specify the total number of symptoms (e.g., “4”), ensuring the diagnostic list is tailored to the exact clinical presentation. The system then provides a rank-ordered differential diagnosis, prioritizing conditions most consistent with the full symptom set (e.g., pulmonary embolism, asthma, heart failure).
When Pulmonary Embolism (or any condition) appears at the top of the differential list, clinicians can further evaluate it by hovering over the associated score. This action displays a set of additional symptoms commonly linked to the condition (e.g., hypoxemia, tachycardia, pleuritic chest pain).
Physicians can then verify with the patient whether these symptoms are present. Incorporating this additional information allows the system to further refine and reprioritize the differential diagnosis list, improving diagnostic precision and clinical decision support.
For any given symptom, clinicians can explore related conditions by hovering over the color block associated with that symptom. For example, selecting Dyspnea displays a rank-ordered list of diagnoses in which dyspnea is a prominent or common presentation (e.g., heart failure, pulmonary embolism, COPD, etc.).
This feature allows physicians to quickly assess the most likely differential diagnoses for a symptom and efficiently guide further evaluation.
By clicking on any score associated with a symptom or diagnosis, the application opens the corresponding Wikipedia reference page. This provides comprehensive details about the concept, including relevant diagnostic tests, imaging studies, treatment options, prognosis, and additional clinical considerations.
This feature ensures that clinicians have quick access to trusted, well-structured medical knowledge at the point of care.
